- Hofburg Imperial Palace – This stately palace has housed some of the most powerful rulers in Austrian history, including members of the Habsburg dynasty. Imagine how the royals lived and dressed by taking a tour of the palace apartments and treasury, which holds a stunning collection of gems, crowns and swords.
- St. Stephen's Cathedral – A lasting symbol of Vienna's freedom, this Roman Catholic church is recognizable by its famous tiled roof. Built mainly in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, it features rare art treasures and stunning examples of Romanesque architecture. Make sure to take one of the regularly scheduled tours of the catacombs to visit the crypts of Austria's past rulers.
- Spanish Riding School – Attend a public performance featuring the world-famous Lippizzan stallions. Shows include skills and traditions dating back to ancient Greece, in addition to the highly stylized jumps synonymous with this style of riding.
- State Opera House – Home to the Vienna Philharmonic, the State Opera House will host more than 60 operas and 285 ballets in the 2008-2009 season. Performances include the work of the finest international directors, stage designers and soloists.
- Naschmarkt – At Vienna's most popular outdoor market, sample fruits and vegetables from around the world, in addition to meats, seafood, spices and cheeses. Soak in the atmosphere and pause to enjoy lunch at one of the small restaurants that line the marketplace. Open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
- Belvedere Palace - Once the summer residence of the art connoisseur Prince Eugene, Belvedere features the world's largest Gustav Klimt collection. Klimt's paintings The Kiss and Judith are classic examples of Viennese Art Nouveau.
