Give a Memorial or Tribute Gift

Gifts made in tribute to, or in memory of, a loved one, friend, colleague or other significant person have distinctive meaning.  Tribute and memorial gifts speak to the commitment that our donors have to support our mission, while they pay homage to, or memorialize, someone who was affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

A memorial gift helps you to remember how exceptional the person was who has passed, their personality, the sound of their voice, the way they looked in their prime, anything which helps you to remain in touch with them in your thoughts.  Memorial gifts are sometimes given in lieu of, or in addition to, sending flowers.  They also are given to mark a special time of remembrance of the person.  When you bestow a memorial gift through us, we will send the family of the deceased a notice of your sympathy.

A tribute gift, sometimes known as an honor gift, shows love and respect, and says the world is a better place because of someone.  It generally is given for a milestone occasion or accomplishment, such as a holiday, birthday, graduation, wedding, birth of a child, anniversary, retirement, or graduation.  When you give a tribute gift through the Alzheimer’s Association, we will send the person being honored a notice of your generosity.

You may make memorial and tribute gifts online, over the phone at 973.586.4300, or by mail to the address below.

Bequests

By remembering the Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter in your will, you can have a significant impact on improving the quality of care for all those affected by Alzheimer's disease. Your bequest may have estate tax planning benefits as well. Here is sample bequest information you can take to your attorney:

I,  [your name]  [address, city, state, zip], give, devise and bequeath to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater New Jersey Chapter, with offices located at 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, New Jersey 07834 [insert written amount of gift, percentage of estate, or residuary of estate, or description of property) for its unrestricted use and purpose.

Gifts of Retirement Plans

These days many companies offer qualified retirement plans that allow employees to defer paying taxes on a portion of their income until the assets are withdrawn. Designating the Alzheimer's Association as the beneficiary of a retirement plan allows you to pass on those dollars tax free, instead of leaving a tax burden to your heirs or estate. Examples of plans to consider include 401(k), 403(b), Keoghs, and traditional Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).

Life insurance

A life insurance policy can provide a substantial contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter and present tax advantages in estate planning.  The policy can be either a new one or a paid–up policy that is no longer needed for its original purpose.  The most direct way to make this type of gift is to name the Chapter as both the owner and the beneficiary of the life insurance policy.

Charitable Gift Annuity

A Charitable Gift Annuity is a simple contract between you and the Alzheimer’s Association.  In exchange for your irrevocable gift of cash or securities, the Alzheimer’s Association agrees to pay a fixed sum each year for the life of one or two annuitants.  The rate of return is determined by your age.  Charitable Gift Annuities offer a tax deduction at the time of the initial gift.  In addition, a portion of the lifetime payments made to the annuitant may be tax free.

Charitable Trusts

Charitable Trusts provide you with the opportunity to make a considerable donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter.  A Charitable Remainder Trust pays a lifetime income to you or a loved one. At the beneficiary’s death, the Greater New Jersey Chapter receives the remaining principle.  A Charitable Lead Trust provides the Greater New Jersey Chapter with income for a designated period of time and then your beneficiaries receive the remainder.  Charitable Trusts offer significant tax benefits for you and your family.
