About professional trainingThe Alzheimer's Association is committed to helping professionals improve their knowledge and skills, build stronger teams and deliver better care to people with dementia and their families. Our training and education programs are geared to professionals working in both community-based and residential care settings. Our programs and meetings have been attended by activity professionals, administrators, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and staff trainers. Many of our programs offer CEUs. Training programs
• Dementia Care Certification - The Dementia Care Certification Course will provide you with a greater understanding of how to care for persons with Alzheimer's disease and other related dimentias. The foundations of the course are based on the new Dementia Care Practice Recommendations published by the National Alzheimer's Association. Through a combination of innovative teaching strategies including computerized instruction, you will learn about dementia, specifically Alzheimer's disease and what causes persons with dementia to act in ways that may seem difficult. This course will cover accepting and working with behavior problem issues, handling challenges with activities and assisting with the use of medications. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a Dementia Care Certification recognized by the Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma/Arkansas Chapter, Northest Area Health Education Center, and Tulsa Community College. • Professional Caregiver Training – Alzheimer’s Disease: Transforming Our Care This Dementia Training is a biannual event that will explore the Basics of Dementia, Normal Aging vs. Alzheimer’s Disease, and Direct Care Techniques. This training is ideal for all Professional Health Care Workers including Directors of Nursing, Nurse Aides, Activity Directors, or others who may train direct care personnel. Participants will receive a Certificate of Dementia Specific Training.
Web-based training programsCARES: A Dementia Caregiving Approach This affordable, Web-based program has six one-hour training modules that are geared primarily to direct care workers, particularly nursing assistants. Each module uses text and streaming video to illustrate how to best care for people with dementia living in residential care settings. Topics include:
