Jeannine Skinner, PhDThis year’s Keynote Speaker is Jeannine Skinner, PhD, geriatric neuropsychology fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine, will discuss current research that examines the role of insulin and memory loss disorders. Dr. Skinner will also discuss her current research study, the Health Education, Aerobic, and Resistance Training Study for African Americans, also known as the HEART study. This study will examine how healthy aging education and different types of physical activity affect memory and other thinking abilities in African Americans at risk for diabetes. This study also examines how health education and different types of physical activity affects how the body processes sugar and other age-and-disease related biomarkers.

Forum Highlights

In addition to Dr. Skinner’s presentation, the forum will include:

  • The most current information about nutrition, countering obesity, and prevention and management of chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease, both risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease.

  • How physical activity, socializing, and opportunities for new learning help to maintain heart and brain health.
