Assistant Director of Community Outreach

General Summary

In support of our mission to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health, the Chapter is seeking a dynamic, effective, customer-focused part time professional. The successful candidate will split his/her time between program and development responsibilities, while working in conjunction with the Program and Development staff.
The Assistant Director of Community Outreach is expected to represent the Alzheimer's Association in a manner that exhibits inclusion and promotes goodwill. The Assistant Director will raise local awareness and engagement through networking events, speaking opportunities, community events and opportunities, and assigned local committee work. The Assistant Director will strategically identify community needs, including collaborative relationships with other organizations, volunteer cultivation and management as well as identification of potential corporate sponsors.

Essential Job Functions

  •  Schedule and organize outreach activities that promote the Alzheimer's Association's mission and services
  • Compile and maintain accurate documentation of all programs, groups and activities
  • Program Responsibilities:
     - Recruit, coordinate, train, and oversee local program volunteers in support of the Portfolio of Common Programs
     - Oversee volunteers to meet program projections based on need for the area, established annually in conjunction with the Director of Programs
  • Development Responsibilities
     - Ensure Walk planning committees are recruited and supported in pursuit of income and team goals
     - Identify, cultivate and recruit Walk teams, corporate sponsors, volunteers and community leaders
     - Support fundraising events and activities including logistical needs
     - Accept, secure, and transfer Walk funds following strict Chapter policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements

  •  Bachelor's degree a must, Master's degree a plus
  • Experience in a non-profit or similar organization
  • Ability to recruit, train, mentor, manage, and retain volunteers
  • Detail-oriented and adaptable with a high level of integrity, diplomacy, and initiative
  • Strong organizational and management skills to enable independent work in the community and maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Cold calling and presentations are a must for this position
    Additional Requirements:
  • Must have own vehicle and valid Driver's License
  • Must be able to travel within Chapter territory as needed (some overnight travel)
  • Evening & weekend work as needed
