The Director of Communications supports a wide range of marketing and communications activities for the Alzheimer's Association, Central Ohio Chapter. The director assists in the implementation of the Alzheimer's Association overall strategic plan by increasing awareness of the association and its many involvements throughout the fourteen counties that the Central Ohio chapter serves, and by assisting with strategic partnerships with all aspects of public outreach. The communications function requires a creative individual who is highly organized, and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. It will be a part of the chapter's leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director and CEO of the chapter.
Essential Job Functions
Enhance the overall public awareness and image of the Alzheimer's Association to key audiences within chapter area.
Work to build partnerships with established media outlets to increase the level of awareness of the Alzheimer's Association.
Take primary responsibility for determining what materials and information are needed for specific Chapter and project pursuits, and coordinate the production of materials and information. This includes graphic brochures, presentation materials, and other print and electronic marketing materials.
Lead the development efforts of all Chapter publications and collateral materials as well as designing collateral materials, including Chapter newsletter, eNews, flyers, brochures, etc..
Manage the use of social media as it relates to raising awareness for the cause and increasing engagement of volunteers.
Update and maintain Chapter's website and e-communications to audiences.
Implement and continually develop a proactive marketing/public relations program to strengthen profile of the Alzheimer's Association.
Develop pool of personal stories from constituents served by the Association; identify candidates, interview and prepare story for publication via various communication channels.
Manage adherence to Association branding standards and how it is reflected in all internal and external communications.
Manage relationships with outside consultants including media relations, copywriters, graphic designers, branding specialists, photographers, PR consultants, etc.
Serve as a source of information about Alzheimer's Association for press, members, industry partners, and other audiences.
Work across departments internally to enhance communications, plan for communications needs, and deliver messages clearly and effectively to audiences.
Participate in special projects/assignments as necessary.
Provide project/program status reports to board of directors as needed.
Assist with key messaging and programming for events.
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related discipline.
Minimum five years of professional experience in communications/marketing/public relations handling multiple responsibilities.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects and in a deadline-oriented environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, with proven effectiveness to engage others in fulfilling the mission.
Ability to work independently; self-motivated.
Must be team player committed to constant improvement and creative approaches in changing situations.
Must display good judgment and exhibit strong customer-service orientation.
Commitment to the mission and goals of the Association.
Proficient in Windows and Adobe software programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite 6 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Google Apps.
Association/nonprofit communications experience is preferable.
Some travel for events is required within the Central Ohio area.
