Our chapter, in our effort to assist people with Alzheimer’s and their families and to educate the public about Alzheimer’s disease, offers a variety of diverse programs and services. These are the chapter highlights of the past year:
- Through our services, over 127,000 people received assistance this year.
- More than 1,000 families were assisted face-to-face through care consultations in English, Spanish and Chinese.
- Education, care consultation, support groups and respite grants were provided to over 3,500 Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese families in California through efforts supported by a demonstration grant from the State Department of Aging and the federal Administration on Aging.
- Extensive outreach and community education enabled us to reach more than 30,000 Latinos.
- Our Clergy Outreach Program to the African-American community partnered with 19 faith-based groups to provide services to 5,000 people.
- Programs for people with early stage dementia were delivered in the Westside of Los Angeles, in the Greater San Fernando Valley and in the Coachella Valley.
- More than 1,300 people attended one of the 138 support groups held in English, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, Armenian and Korean.
- More than 30,000 people attended community education events, provided in a range of languages.
- Nearly 5,000 callers contacted our 24-hour Helpline for information and support.
- 650 people registered for Safe Return, a national database registry program and 169 people where lost were returned home.
- Nearly 750,000 “hits” were made on our chapter website for information.
- An annual research award, the Turken Scholarship, was given to UCLA researcher Linda Ercolis, PhD.
