Drs. Edward and Marian Schoenheit (Syracuse) The Schoenheits personify the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and Memory Makers. The Syracuse residents have been married for 30 years and have four children. As professionals, they are distinguished in their respective fields. Ed is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and the Syracuse University College of Law. He is board certified in internal medicine and, in addition to a private practice in Syracuse, was once president of the medical staff at Community General Hospital and medical director of Oswego and Fulton’s Lee Memorial Hospitals. Marian holds a master’s and doctorate in education from Syracuse University. Prior to retiring, she was the associate dean of professional studies at SUNY Oswego, director of elementary education for the Liverpool Central School District and a principal in the West Genesee Central School District. What brought them to the chapter was the startling diagnosis in 1998 that Ed had Alzheimer’s disease. Since then, they have both taken active roles in the chapter as volunteers and board members. Tireless in their work for the chapter, they are often the first to volunteer to staff an event and are regular faces at Memory Walk and Memory Makers events. Giving back was not something they started doing recently. Marian is a former board member of the Onondaga County Public Libraries and United Way of Central New York, board chair of Skaneateles Savings Bank and past president of the local Pres-Ex Forum and United Cerebral Palsy Association. Ed is a member of Syracuse’s Century Club and a former board member of the Syracuse Home Association. |
