The Darling and Despins families thank everyone who supported the 2008 tournament on August 3. It was a beautiful day at Barker Brook and we have the pictures to prove it. Click this link and, when prompted, enter 71656psito into the event code box.

Who are Sito's Angels?

Katie Deep, or Sito as she was called by her great-grandchildren passed away on May 22, 2005 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Since 2003, her family has taken part in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk, forming a team called Sito’s Angels. In 2005 and 2006, they were the top fundraising family at the Mohawk Valley Memory Walk. We are sure that on September 29, 2007, we will find their team at the Masonic Home walking once again.

This golf tournament is a tribute to Katie Deep, an avid golfer and devoted parent, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren, Kate Despins and Julie Darling, wrote this in her memory:

Nearly four years ago, we formed our team, “Sito’s Angels,” in honor of our grandmother, Katie Deep. At that time, Katie, or “Sito”, as she was lovingly called by her great-grandchildren, was in the midst of a heart-wrenching battle with Alzheimer’s disease. “Sito” was a strong, energetic woman with many interests. She loved to be with her family and to cook for them. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, bowling, gambling, playing cards, and of course, golfing when the weather permitted. Katie would never just sit and relax, and all who knew her would tell you, she was a “lady on the go.”

Grams, as she was called by her grandchildren, ended her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease on May 22, 2005. Each day, we watched her slowly slipping away. This devastating and fatal illness not only took our grandmother away from us, but it took her away one memory at a time. From misplaced items and forgotten appointments, to the inability to recognize her loved ones, or even to walk, talk, or care for any of her daily needs.

So while Grams’ fight has finally come to an end, ours is only beginning. We strongly believe that a memory is a treasure that should never be lost, and so we are focusing all our efforts on finding a cure.
