We offer several educational programs for families and individuals facing Alzheimer’s, as well as community members. Most of these programs, described below, are free of charge.
Our Education Series
Alzheimer’s 101
What is Alzheimer’s disease and what causes it? Our one-hour program provides an overview of the disease, its symptoms and how it affects the brain and the person who has it. The program culminates with a question and answer session led by one of our dementia professionals.
Caring for the Caregiver
Providing high-quality care to someone with Alzheimer’s takes its toll on the caregiver. This hour long program equips caregivers with the tools and strategies to identify communication and behavior challenges associated with the disease and how to spot caregiver stress.
Family Caregiver Training
The Family Caregiver Training is a free, seven-hour workshop that addresses issues related to Alzheimer’s caregiving. The program helps caregivers address the issues that arise with the everyday and long-term care of someone with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. The training is conducted by Alzheimer’s Association staff and members of the local medical and legal communities. Topics include a general discussion of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, communication and behavioral symptoms, activities of daily living and legal and financial planning.
Late-Stage Training
Late Stage Alzheimer’s Trainings are designed to confront tough caregiving issues that arise in end-of-life care, including physical care, understanding grief and guilt, principles for ethical decision-making and community resources. This program is both educational and supportive in nature.
Maintain Your Brain
Can you lower your risk of Alzheimer’s disease? Studies have shown that a healthy lifestyle and watching your numbers (weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol) is also good for your brain. This one-hour presentation covers wellness strategies.
Partnering With Your Doctor
The Partnering With Your Doctor workshop helps families get the best health care for memory loss. The workshop assists patients with memory loss and their caregivers improve how they work with their doctor. It teaches techniques on how to let doctors know of and take care of concerns, prepare for doctor visits, log the use of medicine and points to discuss, lower stress and ensure the best health care possible.
