Summary
Blondes vs. Brunettes is a volunteer-driven active event for women that brings the passion and spirit of young community leaders together to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
The event concept is organized around a flag football game in which the two participating teams are divided based on the age-old rivalry between blondes and brunettes.
An event committee leads the organization of the BvB game and all associated events. This committee has the support of the Alzheimer’s Association in coordination and organization. Team captains are assigned for Team Blonde and Team Brunette to recruit and engage players. Coaches, announcers, referees and other volunteers are also recruited to round-out the key roles of the BvB game.
The social network of the committee plays a vital role in the success of this event, as all activities are built around their community connections. Those connections are responsible for building the roster of players, volunteers, supporters and sponsors.
History
Blondes vs. Brunettes (BvB) was created in the fall of 2005 by a group of young professional women in Washington, D.C. The founders had a personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease and designed the event to raise awareness among their peers while also raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Since its inception, the event has successfully branched out to several other cities, raising more than $1,500,000 and bringing thousands of new supporters to the cause. The success of the event has created a buzz, inspiring the National Office to brand the event and build tools to support BvB games around the country.
