Ride for Reason

October 12  |  10 & 47-Mile Bike Ride

Starting Location:Trek Bicycle Store in Westerville | 5985 Maxtown Rd, Westerville, OH.

To Ride With David...

“My mother passed away at the age of 60, in 1987, having suffered for ten years or so from dementia. At the time of her death I was a young man, 25, and in reaction to the whole experience I wanted, and needed, to do something positive about it. Public awareness at the time was minimal. And the local chapter, like chapters all across the country, needed all the funds it could get.

“So, with the help of the Columbus chapter, and then the national organization, and then 25 other locals across the country, from Miami to Seattle, I undertook the Ride For Reason in 1988. I rode 4,700 miles over a four month period, spoke before many hundreds of people, got roughly 125 media events (TV, radio, print), and raised a total of $65k or so for local operations and national research. Not a ton of money, but at the time meaningful and not bad for a young guy who had a lot of heart but not much practical experience.

“Anyway, I am very interested in doing something this year to benefit your organization, centered around the 25th anniversary of the Ride, if you have an interest. I am very confident that we could plan and execute a central Ohio bike ride that would serve as the locus of a fundraising effort and, to whatever degree possible, related media events. I still have the bicycle I used in 1988...”
