Introducing the New Multicultural Caregiver Forum
The former African-American Family Caregiver Forum has been expanded to include more diverse topics and now has a new name: Multicultural Caregiver Forum.
This year’s topic “Dementia and Challenges” focuses on particular dementia risk factors for Black/African-American and Hispanic/Latino communities. Studies have shown that Blacks/African-Americans are two times more likely, and Hispanics/Latinos are one and a half times more likely, to develop Alzheimer’s disease compared to Whites/Caucasians.
The Forum also includes discussion of caregiving challenges across all cultures and features a diverse panel of caregivers who will share their particular situations.
A variety of educational topics will be presented at the Forum, including one session presented in Spanish. Information sheets in various languages will be available and exhibitors from local community service agencies will be present to explain their services and answer questions.
