Education Programs Spotlight

The Alzheimer's Association, Central and North Florida Chapter is very pleased to partner with Marion Senior Services to bring needed resources to those affected by dementia in Marion County. A key portion of this partnership will be our education and support days, which will be held monthly at the Marion Senior Services office in Ocala. Educational sessions will be held on the second Thursday of each month from 1:00-2:00 on topics related to Alzheimer's disease/dementia. Staff from the Alzheimer's Association will remain at Marion Senior Services from 2:00-4:00 for individual and private care consultations regarding Alzheimer's disease, dementia, caregiving, brain health, or any related topic. These sessions are free, open to all members of the community, and are completely confidential.
We do ask that you RSVP to the Alzheimer's Association at (800) 272-3900 if you plan on attending any of the educational sessions. This is so we can plan for space and materials.

New Memories in the Making® offered!

Friday, September 9, 2016 | 10:00am - 11:30am  ET
Location: One Senior Place.

Memories in the Making - The Alzheimer’s Association Memories in the Making® program offers creative art expression for individuals with early to the middle stages of Alzheimer’s or another related dementia. People experiencing dementia are often able to paint their thoughts, emotions and memories in a manner that is expressive and beautiful. Art becomes their voice. Through painting, people are often able to reach outside of their dementia and paint a picture that reconnects them with a past memory.

Memories in the Making® programs meet weekly in small groups under the guidance of a care professional and art facilitator who have been specially trained to work with individual with memory loss and dementia. For most of the individuals who participate in the group, this is their first time painting. Since there are no mistakes in art, the process is more important than the product. Caregivers are invited to paint as well.

Registration is required as space is limited. Please call 800-272-3900 to register.
