Keynote presentation: "What's New in Alzheimer Research"
Ralph Nixon, MD, PhD
Dr. Nixon is Vice Chairman for Research in the Department of Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine. He is also Director of Research and Director of the Center for Dementia Research at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research, an NYU-affiliated research institute.
Ending keynote presentation: “Finding Life in the Land of Alzheimer’s”
Lauren Kessler, Author
Like many loved ones of Alzheimer’s sufferers, Lauren Kessler was devastated by the ravaging disease that seemed to turn her mother into another person before claiming her life. To better understand the confounding aspects of living with a condition that afflicts four and a half million people a year, Kessler, an accomplished journalist, enlists as a bottom-rung caregiver at a residential Alzheimer’s facility she calls Maplewood.

George and Pat Sugerman Excellence in Caregiving Award
Each year the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado gives the George and Pat Sugerman Excellence in Caregiving Award to a professional caregiver who provides outstanding care to people with Alzheimer’s disease. We rely on your nominations to identify these exceptional caregivers. Each nominee will be recognized during the 2008 Annual Education Symposium.
Guidelines for Nomination:
- Family or friends of individuals receiving care must make nominations.
- Nominees should provide direct care to people with Alzheimer’s. Please do not nominate supervisory personnel such as nurses and/or activity directors.
- You may wish to nominate more than one person. However, you must use a separate form for each person as this award is for an individual, not a group of individuals.
- Nominations must be received by Friday, March 21, 2008.
Supporting your Nomination:
Be sure to explain why the person you are nominating should receive this award. What makes them special? What do they do which goes beyond what would normally be expected? The selection of the award winner is based on these explanations as well as the number of nominations received for that person.
