Our 10th annual 2008 Alzheimer’s Association Memories in the Making Art Auction Gala was attended by more than 200 people despite early morning rain and high winds. The sun came out just in time to warm our guests as they arrived to the tunes of Kathleen Strong. This year’s theme “A Sea of Memories” was inspired by the signature watercolor titled At the Edge of the Sea which was painted by Mabel Larson of Stepping Stones Adult Day Program. The theme was carried throughout the event with sea glass, sand and an array shells on all the tables with centerpieces featuring margarita glasses and tiny umbrellas. Delicious appetizers helped fuel the energy for the live auction and specially made “palette” cookies announced the ending of the silent bidding on a new addition this year, original art palettes created by local professional artists.

Mike Hooker from CBS4 News served as this year’s emcee providing a very special flavor to the event. Once again the talented auctioneer Chuck Miller kept the energy alive and the bidding high and his hearty banter with Mike helped to engage the audience.  This year’s auction raised nearly $60,000 in support of Alzheimer’s Association education, counseling, support groups, our 24-hour Helpline as well as funding research to find a cure.
