A good time was had by all! Many Dayton-area sports legends attended this exciting, one-of-a-kind event to celebrate our milestone Anniversary. The black-tie optional event included a raffle for fantastic prizes, a sports memorabilia auction, an opportunity for photos, autographs and much more! University of Dayton Arena turned purple in honor of the Alzheimer's Association and served as a backdrop for a sports-themed Gala featuring many of our sports friends and the area’s own local heroes. Our "All-Stars" included: Larry Hansgen, WHIO Broadcaster; Andy Harmon, Ohio State Football & Philadelphia Eagles; Costa Papista, Owner and Pesident, Dayton Bombers; Mark Baker, Ohio State Football; Guy Fogle, TV personality; Peggy Yingling-Stewart, Wright State Basketball and a host of UD Basketball heroes - including: Don Meinke; Bill Uhl Sr.; Bill Uhl, Jr.; Don May; Dan Obravac; Hank Josefczyk; and Theresa Yingling-Pluckett.
Kirk Herbsreit, a broadcaster on ESPN's College GameDay, is a local favorite as he played for Centerville (OH) High School and was Ohio Player of the Year his senior year. He went on to be a four-year letter winner as a quarterback at Ohio State University from 1989 – 1993. Kirk attended the event and was our Honorary Chair.
Keynote Speaker

Coach Frank Broyles, recently retired Athletic Director of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, has written a football-style Playbook for those who care for someone with Alzheimer’s. “No one has ever survived this disease,” he once reminded the FDA. Broyles has found the fight against Alzheimer’s to be tougher than any opponent he has ever faced on the football field. Still, he refuses to give up, and wants to do his part to help find a cure by traveling the country raising funds in memory of his wife Barbara. |
