The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter
Welcome
The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter serves Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Delaware. It is the local chapter of the National Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association.
We are an alliance of family members and professionals dedicated to helping people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families through education, advocacy, and support.

To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

Financial information
The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donor-supported organization. Programs and services are made possible through contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations. The Chapter uses 79% of funds raised for programs, services and research efforts.

| 1906 | German Dr.Alois Alzheimer diagnosed disease by noting plaques and tangles, the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s. |
| 1980 |
Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association founded (Alzheimer’s Association) Delaware: The first support group formed. Southeastern Pennsylvania: Incorporated as chapter of national Alzheimer’s Association South Jersey: South Jersey Chapter founded 1981. |
| 1982 | President Ronald Reagan declared Thanksgiving week as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Week. |
| 1984 | Alzheimer’s Disease International formed. |
| 1989 | First National Alzheimer’s Disease Public Policy Forum in Washington, DC |
| 1991 |
The Chapter’s first Memory Walk was held in Philadelphia. Delaware: The first statewide education conference offered. Multicultural Outreach Program established. |
| 1992 | Wilmington, Delaware Office opened |

First Alzheimers drug treatment Cognex (Tacrine) approved by the FDA National Safe Return TM Program Introduced |
| 1994 | The Chapter's Respite Care Financial Assistance Program began |

Former President Reagan announced his Alzheimer's Disease diagnosis. Contact Center/Helpline expanded to 800 number which serves all of U.S. South Jersey Office Opened |
| 1996 | Aricept (Donepezil), second Alzheimer's drug introduced. |
| 1997 | Berks Country Branch Office opened. |
| 1998 | Co-chair, Nicholas DeBenedictis and Ronald Rubin hosted Chapters Reagan Tribute Luncheon in Philadelphia. Maureen Reagan honors first million raised for research with Zenith Award. |

Latino Outreach Program began Lehigh Valley Branch Office opened. |
| 2000 |
Third Alzheimer's drug Exelon (Rivastigmine) introduced. Southeastern Pennsylvania: Asian Outreach Programs initiated. Chapter Sponsored First International Picks Disease Conference in Phildelphia. First Chocolate Symphony Held at Ardrossan in Villanova, PA. |
| 2001 | Fourth Alzheimers drug, Reminyl (Galantamine) approved. Renamed Razadyne in 2005. |
| 2002 |
Southeastern Pennsylvania: SEPA became one of the first chapters to be a part of 24/7/365 Contact Center/Helpline The Delaware, South Jersey and Southeastern Pensylvania Chaptes formed the Alzheimer's Assocaition Delaware Valley Chapter. Delaware Valley Chapter received three-year $1.2 million grant through the Federal Administration on Aging to provide free memory loss screenings to multicultrual communities in Southeastern Pennsylvania. |
| 2003 |
Namenda, (Memantine HCI) fifth treatment for moderate to severe Alzheimer;s approved by the FDA. Chapter launched Professional Training Program to enhance knowledge and undersanding of direct care personnel. First Alzheimer's Town Meeting held in Bucks County, PA. |
| 2004 |
Current First Lady Laura Bush and six former first ladies hosted First Generations Gala Benefit in Washington, D. C. Chapter hosted International and National conferences on Alzheimer's disease in Philadelphia. Grant awarded to expand services in Salem County, New Jersey. Former President Reagan died from Alzheimer's complications. |
| 2005 |
Ambassador program began with first level grant. New Jersey passed Safe ReturnTM bill. Atlantic County, New Jersey Branch Office opened. Delaware received Federal Administration on Aging grant to provide free memory-loss screenings and education to multicultural communities. Chester County Branch Office Opened. Chapter hosted first-ever Philadelphia Town Meeting on Alzheimer's Disease Research. 15th anniversary of Memory Walk in Delaware Valley. Chapter unveiled six WHYY educational commercials on Alzheimer's. Chapter produced Programs and Services video |
