As we really begin to dig into 2014, the focus on fighting Alzheimer's disease has never been more important. Since 1985, NARFE has proudly supported the Alzheimer's Association and your hard work in the working to end Alzheimer's is sincerely appreciated. On the road to victory, we have much to celebrate. Drug companies join NIH in study of Alzheimer's and other diseases
Under a five-year collaboration, 10 drug companies and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have agreed to share scientists, tissue and blood samples, and data. The Accelerating Medicines Project (AMP) aims to decipher the biology behind Alzheimer's disease, Type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, and to identify targets for new drugs. The Alzheimer's Association is involved in AMP as a steering committee member. Read more.
 
Mexican Americans develop problems that could lead to Alzheimer's 10 years earlier than others
A recent study led by Sid O'Bryant, suggests Mexican-Americans — a fast-growing group — might develop memory problems that could lead to Alzheimer's disease as much as a decade earlier than non-Hispanics. Read more.
 
Alzheimer's Association and Parkinson's groups team up for research
The Alzheimer's Association, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and the W. Garfield Weston Foundation of Canada announced that they will offer joint research grants to study the similarities and differences between these degenerative diseases, which together affect 6 million Americans. The hope is that by collaborating on research, scientists will gain insights that will lead to early diagnostics and better, more targeted treatments for both diseases. Read more.
