Early Stage Support Group
The Alzheimer's Association East Central Iowa Chapter is now offering an Early Stage Support Group for those individuals and families experiencing the early stages of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The monthly support groups are free of charge. If you have questions or are interested in the Early Stage Support Group, please contact the Alzheimer's Association at 1.800.272.3900.

Connect with Others Online
When facing Alzheimer’s disease, it helps to connect with others who relate to your experiences. ALZConnected is a online social networking community where people with Alzheimer’s, their caregivers and others affected by the disease can share questions and form new connections. ALZConnected is powered by the Alzheimer’s Association and can be easily accessed by visiting www.alzconnected.org.
On ALZConnected, you don’t have to explain what it means to live with Alzheimer’s. The other users know, and are willing to offer their advice and solutions to common challenges. We’ll help you to form “connections” with other users, matching you based on common criteria. Tap into a diverse community via our message boards, or create a private group organized around a specific topic.

Support Group Facilitator Training
Support groups are peer or professionally led groups for caregivers and others dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. All Alzheimer’s Association support groups are facilitated by trained individuals.
The Alzheimer's Association offers training for those interested in facilitating or co-facilitating a support group in a community or independent living setting. Qualifications for leading a support group include:
- General knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders Experience as a caregiver or working directly with caregivers
- A willingness to seek out and provide up to date information on research, care and treatment to group members
- A lack of personal agenda for facilitating the group, such as job requirement or a marketing aide to enhance the reputation of a program
- Must have a satisfactory criminal background check
