Delicious, Decadent and Divine

The 2013 “Chocolate Jubilee in the D” was record-breaking across the board!  Spearheaded by Honorary Chairs Bill and Marlene Emerson, Event Chair Mary Wilson, Event Co-Chairs Amyre Makupson and Richard Astrein, and Title Sponsor Quicken Loans, we welcomed 944 guests to the event – a new record for MGM – and raised over $1,000,000!! This new high for the Jubilee translates into record hope and support for families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease.

The magnitude of this support was highlighted by personal reflections from 2 quite different ends of the spectrum. The Emersons shared their story of Bill’s dad and his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  Their commitment inspired an outpouring of support from their Quicken colleagues, above and beyond Quicken’s role as Title Sponsor. A little while later, 14 year-old Hannah Johns took hold of the microphone.  She was only 6 when her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He passed away last year, but Hannah has chosen to keep his voice alive by sharing his story and raising awareness and support for Alzheimer’s disease.  With not a dry eye in the house, the crowd was spellbound by her message.

Since the Jubilee was launched 27 years ago, we have raised over $15 million to help build an extensive array of programs, raise awareness, expand advocacy efforts and support research to find a cure.  This year, showcasing the theme of the “D” in tastes of Detroit and the sounds of Motown, “Chocolate Jubilee in the D” built on this strong history, culminating in a tremendous financial and emotional evening of fun and celebration for all!

Stay tuned for plans of the 2013 Chocolate Jubilee, set for Saturday, November 2 – bringing you another great event and support for families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease!
