Join us for Lemonade Day Detroit

Lemonade Day Detroit is Empowering Today’s Youth to Become Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs.

Who

• Lemonade Day Detroit is for children across the state of Michigan.

What

• Lemonade Day is a free, annual, community-wide, educational
initiative designed to teach children how to start, own and operate their
own business – a lemonade stand.

Where

• Lemonade stands will appear all over Michigan, from neighborhoods to retail
spaces and everything in between.

• In 2011, 119,000 children in 35 cities across the United States and Canada
hosted Lemonade Day.

When

• The third Lemonade Day Detroit will be held Saturday, June 8th, 2013.

Why

• At a time when Detroit’s story is one of strength and resiliency, Lemonade
Day Detroit continues that message by helping the youth of the
community learn valuable skills and the positives of business, to help them
become the next generation of leaders.

• As Michigan continues its rebirth, new industries and businesses will
undoubtedly emerge. And those businesses will be imagined, formed
and run by our young people. We’re excited to bring Lemonade Day
to Michigan as a means of helping the youth of the community learn
valuable skills and the positives of business. We hope Lemonade
Day  Detroit will launch the careers of our future business leaders.

• Kids of all ages learn to set goals, develop a plan, secure an investor,
create  a product, make a profit and give back to their community however
they choose.

• The goal of Lemonade Day is to give children of all socio-economic
backgrounds, in all neighborhoods, the opportunity to learn about starting
their own business – and learning how to make money to “spend a little,
save a little and share a little”. In 2012, Lemonade Day Detroit
participants donated about $230,000 to the charities of their choice.

• Started in 2007 by Houston philanthropist and local entrepreneur
Michael Holthouse, Lemonade Day has become a national event where
children register for free backpacks filled with age appropriate
information on how to start and become successful running a business.

How

• The support from our businesses, service organizations and foundations for
Lemonade Day Detroit ensures the program is free.

• Each child will register to receive a backpack filled with all the tools for
them to plan and set up their lemonade stand.

• In 2012, 4,900 little entrepreneurs across Southeast Michigan registered
for Lemonade Day Detroit.

• Huntington National Bank is the perfect presenting sponsor: The bank is
helping Lemonade Day Detroit young entrepreneurs learn financial
management.

• All 51 Huntington branches will serve as registration and backpack pickup locations.

• Caring Adults can help by registering children to participate, assisting them in
the learning process, promoting the program or offering to be a business mentor
to a child or group of children.

d• Community organizations can become Strategic Partners, becoming a resource
for Lemonade Day participants, becoming a distribution point for Lemonade Day
materials and assisting behind-the-scenes as a volunteer.

• Sponsors can ensure Lemonade Day is available to all children by funding
backpacks and materials or supplying in-kind services.

• Volunteers assist by helping at our backpack stuffing, staffing events
or being a business mentor for young entrepreneurs.
