History

The Greater Dallas Chapter's newest volunteer service organization, the Alzheimer's Junior Women's Association (AJWA), supports the services and endeavors fielded by the Chapter. The group is comprised of young women between the ages of 25 and 40 who have an interest in Alzheimer’s disease and, more importantly, want to work on behalf of the many thousands of patients and caregivers.

Lesli Garrett joined AJWA a year after her father died of Alzheimer's disease at age 52. Her story tells of the gradual tragedy of Alzheimer's disease--not the singular event that stuns and saddens--but the progress of loss that builds day upon day.

AJWA is a volunteer service organization that provides energy and power to support the many existing services, educational and fund raising programs already in place with the Alzheimer’s Association and A.W.A.R.E. Championed by a group of eleven women, most of whom have been personally touched by this disease, AJWA looks to the community for spirited and dedicated young women who would like to be members of this organization. The cost of membership is $25.

AJWA has quarterly membership meetings at various locations throughout Dallas, and AJWA members are given the opportunity to volunteer for all Alzheimer's Association events.
