Iowa’s Endangered Person’s Advisory System

It is common for a person with dementia to wander and become lost; many do repeatedly. In fact, over 60 percent of those with dementia will wander at some point.  Wandering can be dangerous - even life threatening - for the person who wanders. The stress can weigh heavily on caregivers and family.  Keep your loved one safe by:

    1.  Knowing the risk factors for wandering.

nrolling in MedicAlert + Alzheimer's Association Safe Return - our 24-hour nationwide emergency response service for individuals with Alzheimer’s or related dementia.

Contact your local law enforcment agency and ask if they participate in Iowa's Endangered Person Advisory (EPA) system.

Iowa's Endangered Person Advisory (EPA)

The EPA is a system designed to disseminate information about a missing/endangered person to law enforcement, media, and the public. It is a voluntary partnership between Iowa law enforcement, media and organizations representing Iowa citizens and visitors. Only Iowa law enforcement can initiate an Endangered Person Advisory (EPA). In order for an Endangered Person Advisory to be initiated, an investigation must be made into the missing person’s whereabouts immediately, and without delay.  This system is a voluntary program for local law enforcement but training is available for them to help keep your loved one safe.  Contact your local law enforcment to see if they
