Get Emotional Support You Need

Sometimes you just need to talk and the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Iowa Chapter provides a variety of ways you can gain support whether you have Alzheimer's or dementia, are a caregiver, or are a family membr; we can help!  We have a variety of support groups at various times and locations. Check to see if there is a support group close to you that fit your needs.

If You Have Alzheimer's

Specialized early-stage and early-onset support groups are available for person's with Alzheimer's and their caregivers.

Memory Minders & The Forum Support Groups

These time-limited support groups are for individuals with early-onset or in the early stage Alzheimer's or related dementia.  Sessions combine education with support, and include personal and practical tips, memory aids and cognitive exercises. Participants must be willing and able to discuss their diagnosis.  Free, but please pre-register.  Memory Minders/The Forum meets at the same time as the Caregiver Support Group.

Early-Stage/Early-Onset Caregiver Support Groups

Support groups specifically for family caregivers of a person diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease before the age of 65 or those who have a loved one attending Memory Minders/The Forum. Caregivers will be encouraged to share experiences and learn from each other. Pre-registration is required.  Caregiver Support Group meets at the same time as Memory Minders/The Forum.

Caregiver Support Groups

Support Group Facilitator Training

For volunteers interested in facilitating an Alzheimer's support group in their community. Training will include ways to encourage participants to share, how to run meetings and education on programs and services available to caregivers. You must pre-register for these training. Contact your local Program Specialist  for more details.
