Greetings!
On behalf of the Alzheimer's Association, Great Plains Chapter, I would like to thank all of our 2007 Memory Walk participants, donors, and volunteers who joined in the 22 Memory Walks across the Great Plains region of Nebraska and Wyoming. You all contributed your valuable time, enthusiasm, and support while raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease. Your monetary donations totaled over $228,000 which will be used to continue programs, services, and education along with respite assistance and research.
Our 2007 Memory Walks were a true success – many of you formed teams, contacted co-workers, friends, and family and urged them to get involved. Creating awareness of Alzheimer’s disease among local churches, clubs, and community groups will enable the word to spread that the Alzheimer's Association is there for those in need who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. We look forward to 2008 with high hopes of achieving even greater success with Memory Walk and the challenge of bringing more information to those who need assistance in finding care, support, and answers. We will continue to MOVE to find a cure so that one day families will no longer have to deal with the confusion and lost memories of their loved ones.
Our continued success is based on your persistent commitment to help grow our Memory Walks in your communities. Over 40,000 people in Nebraska and Wyoming are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and we need to reach them to offer help and support. Early onset Alzheimer’s disease (affecting those younger than 65) is becoming more prevalent. The growing baby-boomer population - who are just now facing their golden years, have added to those numbers. Increases in Alzheimer’s and other dementias are dramatically climbing and will continue to do so which is why we need your support of our walks.
The annual Memory Walk is the largest National Fundraiser benefiting the Association. Funds generated must cover costs associated with support of those affected by the disease. The 24/7 helpline, the Safe Return program, the education and information, and the local needs of support groups and families all rely on the Great Plains chapter to help cover expenses. PLEASE – help us MOVE to end Alzheimer’s disease. Create or join a walk team, donate online anytime or on walk day, and help the Great Plains Chapter meet it’s mission to live in a world without Alzheimer's disease.
Your Support is Appreciated!
Sincerely,
Kris Hall
