Chairs: Jeffrey Kaye, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Ore., United States
Eric M. Reiman, Banner Alzheimer's Institute, Phoenix, Ariz., United States

Overview This conference will focus on the use and methodological development of all types of imaging (including MRI, PET, SPECT, CT and others) for the diagnosis, therapy monitoring, early detection and tracking, and scientific understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, other dementias and normal brain aging. The meeting will consist of both invited speakers as well as oral and poster presentations from submitted abstracts. The world’s leading imaging and non/imaging researchers will discuss various topics such as:

  • New imaging methods
  • Animal imaging
  • Imaging and Genetics
  • Early detection and tracking
  • Evaluating treatments
  • Differential diagnosis
  • Normal brain aging

The cognitive and basic neuroscientific studies of Alzheimer’s disease, other dementias and aging

Target Audience
All clinicians involved in the care of or research on demented individuals, including but not limited to neurologists, psychiatrists, radiologists, geriatricians and neuropsychologists; as well as researchers, industry stakeholders and others involved in the use of imaging techniques in the study of Alzheimer’s disease, related disorders and normal aging.

Learning Objectives At the end of this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

  1. Discuss the interface between imaging and genetics in the study of Alzheimer's disease.
  2. Explain how technological developments and discoveries in genetics can be leveraged when imaging techniques are used in the scientific understanding, early detection and tracking of Alzheimer's disease and the evaluation of promising treatments.
  3. Discuss the use of brain imaging methods (and other biomarker measurements) in the evaluation of putative Alzheimer’s disease-slowing and prevention treatments.
  4. Recognize new developments in diffusion tensor imaging and several other imaging methods, along with some of the opportunities and challenges involved in using these techniques in the scientific study and clinical evaluation of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
