Activity Based Alzheimer's Care: Building a Therapeutic Program

Length: One day

Cost: $90 per participant. Includes continental breakfast, lunch, and a training manual.  CEUs available for activity directors for an additional $10.

CEUs: This program is pre-approved for seven clock hours of continuing education through the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) and for six CEUs through the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

  This full-day program shows participants how to design, implement and evaluate a comprehensive program of activity-based care that will engage people with dementia in more enriching and meaningful exchanges with everyone they encounter; care professionals, volunteers, relatives and others. 
Through six modules, participants learn a range of skills from assessment and program design through teamwork and evaluation strategies. The program features interactive exercises, case studies, and discussion. Participants receive a 116-page manual. Program content includes:  

  • Fundamentals - Discovering how activity-based care enhances outcomes
  • Assessment and planning - The art of shaping care to the individual and setting achievable goals
  • Program and activity design - Learning the value of responsive and adaptive activities and how to tap each person's strengths
  • Evaluation and teamwork - Enhancing care through quality checks, feedback loops, and motivated team members
