Tracy Girls Release Second Cookbook to Benefit Alzheimer’s
Purchase your 224-page “The Tracy Girls’ Celebration of Life Cookbook” Vol. 2 for $20.00. Books can be purchased at the Great Debate Bookstore, 535 Maine Street, Quincy; Quincy Steamboat; the Quincy Area Branch Alzheimer’s Association, 639 York Street; Central Illinois Chapter Alzheimer's Association, 606 W. Glen Avenue, Peoria; Dot Foods Country Store, Mt. Sterling; South Side Antiques and Kitchen Emporium, Rushville, and the Wardrobe, Springfield.
The Tracy girls published a Volume I cookbook in 2005.
“Our goal was to document our amazing mother, Dorothy Curtin Tracy, and her wonderful family recipes that she had served to her family of 12 children, their spouses, husband, Bob, and her 47 grandchildren,” said Jil Tracy who conceived and edited both editions. “We also wanted to document the recipes we have shared as we vacationed and worked together over the years. However, our incentive to get this done was the idea that we would publish the cookbook and use it as a fundraiser to generate funds for the Quincy Area Branch Alzheimer's Association.”
As with the first volume, which sold nearly 2,000 copies, this cookbook is dedicated to the late Bob Tracy and his wife, Dorothy, who started Dot Foods, Mt. Sterling, more than 40 years ago, and to Tracy and Syliva McCord, Jil’s grandparents, all of whom have had to deal with Alzheimer’s disease.
“Virtually everyone has been touched by the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease,” Jil said. “I learned the meaning of marriage and compassion as I watched my grandmother lovingly and tirelessly care for my grandfather, who only a few years previously had served as a prominent minister.”
