Candle Lighting Ceremony to Commemorate National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in November - (Peoria) The Alzheimer's Association - Central Illinois Chapter will hold a Candle Light Service Thursday, Nov. 3, to honor or remember loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease as an event of National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. Participants are invited to attend the program beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapter Office located at 606 W. Glen Avenue, Peoria.

Candle Lighting Ceremony, Open House and Trivia Night to Commemorate National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in November - (Quincy) The Alzheimer's Association – Central Illinois Chapter, Quincy Area Branch, will be commemorating National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in November with three activities.The Branch will partner with Sunset Home to hold a Candle Light Service Thursday, Nov. 3rd to honor or remember loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease. The Candle Lighting event will begin with a soup supper at 5:00 p.m. at Sunset Home, 418 Washington, followed by the candle lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Dessert and social time will follow the ceremony.

Alzheimer’s Association to Present Advanced Topics for Alzheimer’s Care for Professional Staff - (Peoria) Professional healthcare staff will learn how to recognize and report pain in dementia patients at an upcoming Advanced Topics in Alzheimer’s Care (ATAC) program to be held Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Alzheimer's Association - Central Illinois Chapter, Peoria. The half day program runs from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Couple to Share their Personal Journey with Alzheimer’s Disease - (Galesburg) Dr. Stephen Hume was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in May of 2007 at the age of 60. He and his life partner and caregiver, Candy Darcy, will share their insights and feelings about their journey with the disease at a special Art of Caregiving Program presented by the Alzheimer's Association. The half-day event will be held Thursday, Oct. 20th, from 9:30 a.m. – Noon, at Lake Storey Pavilion, 1572 Machen Drive, Galesburg.

From ACT to ACTION: We Need Your VOICE Alzheimer's Association Plans Session for Community Input - Due to the work of thousands of Alzheimer's Association advocates, President Obama signed the National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA) into law on January 4, 2011. This new law requires the federal government to create a National Alzheimer's Plan to combat Alzheimer's disease. Advocates were crucial in the process of moving this legislation into law, and their voices and experiences are essential for its successful implementation.
