Our training and education programs are geared to professionals working in both community-based and residential care settings.Our programs and meetings have been attended by activity professionals, administrators, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and staff trainers. Train-the-Trainer Program IDPH & ATAC Session 2 This training is in compliance with Public Act 91-744 requiring the Illinois department of Public Health to establish training criteria for nursing home & home health employees who provide direct care to persons with Alzheimer’s disease & related dementia. Topics covered include understanding dementia, communication strategies, teaching techniques, conducting in-services, dealing creatively with challenging behaviors, & activity based care. Learn to draw on knowledge of residents’ needs and preferences to improve nutrition & hydration. Learn strategies to make bath time a more pleasurable experience & reduce the risk of falls and preserve mobility. The early registration fee is $75 before March 10th or $85 for regular registration. CEUs will be available for $10.

This workshop is designed for Activity Professionals with a basic understanding of Alzheimer’s disease whose primary job responsibilities include activity programming, design, and implementation, & working with individuals with memory loss in all care settings. Chapter Office Full Day: Train the Trainer The Alzheimer’s Association has developed a new Train-the-Trainer program for staff of nursing homes, assisted & supportive living facilities, adult day care centers, & home care agencies. Objectives include: explain the difference between “old culture” & “new culture”, explain why resistive behavior occurs & how to avoid or minimize it, describe 3 ways to make bathing a pleasurable experience, understand how dementia changes expressions of intimacy & sexuality, describe 3 ways to prevent or minimize the risk of falls, understand the difference between spirituality and religion, identify at least 2 ways we can use music to reach people with dementia, & provide better care for someone in the end stages of dementia. The early registration fee is $75 before February 2nd or $85 for regular registration. CEUs will be available for $10. ATAC Sessions 1 & 3 Learn the principles of friendship in a caregiving relationship, new ways to engage residents with meaningful interactions, & assess reasons for wandering & preventing unsafe wandering. This new and innovative staff training program uses games, role playing, and group exercises to bring 12 in-services alive for direct care staff. Participants receive a scripted manual, Power Point slides, and handouts. The Train-the-Trainer program is taught in a day-and-a-half format. 1. Person centered care
