Remembering: A Tribute

The Alzheimer’s Association is leading important research, care and support initiatives that are seeking to change the face of Alzheimer’s disease locally and worldwide.   In a report made public on March 20, the Alzheimer’s Association shared that in 2007 there are now more than 5 million people in the United States living with Alzheimer’s.  The greatest risk factor for Alzheimer’s is increasing age, and with 78 million baby boomers beginning to turn 60 last year, it is estimated that someone in America develops Alzheimer’s every 72 seconds.

Alzheimer’s disease is now the seventh leading cause of death in the country and the fifth leading cause of death for those over age 65.  The toll of Alzheimer's on the nation’s Medicare system is projected at $400 billion annually by 2030, which is currently the entire Medicare budget.

However there is hope. There are currently nine drugs in Phase III clinical trials for Alzheimer’s, several of which show great promise to slow or stop the progression of the disease. This, combined with advancements in diagnostic tools and the evolution of programs designed to help families coping with the disease, has the potential to change the landscape of Alzheimer’s disease in the coming years.

We can make a difference. Please join us in REMEMBERING those touched by the disease by making a lasting gift in our campaign, Remembering: A Tribute. A significant gift will not only impact those living with Alzheimer's disease today but will bring much hope for tomorrow.

Those who contribute to Remembering will be recognized through artwork created by artist Cindi Fankhauser. This artwork will be prominently displayed at the Association and across the state. To get involved, you may contribute to one of the three different levels:

Legacy Gift    $10,000 and Above
