The origins of this relationship date to the late 90s when Genworth’s long-term care sales agents connected with Association chapters through their local Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's™ fundraising and awareness events. From 2000 to 2004, more than $3 million was raised or contributed, leading to a formal strategic alliance between the two organizations in 2005.
Since establishing this enhanced level of relationship, an additional $4 million dollars has been generated to help the Association sponsor public awareness and work to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through education and the advancement of research.
Through its industry and business activities, the company is acutely connected to Alzheimer's disease and to aging in general. Examples of their work include an annual Cost of Care Study and Genworth Long Term care and Alzheimer’s Disease in America – A Retrospective, a special report which examines the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease and its long-term care implications. Genworth also released a 2009 Cost of Care Study that revealed the cost of long-term care in U.S. nursing homes, assisted living facilities and in the home increased for a sixth consecutive year.
