January 2010 Healthy People 2020 - an Alzheimer's groundswellIn November we told you that the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) failed to include Alzheimer’s disease in its Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) goals and objectives for promoting health and preventing disease. We asked you to submit comments to HHS about why Alzheimer’s issues must be included in HP2020 and your response was overwhelming. More than 300 advocates and 276 researchers submitted comments to the HHS website on this critical issue. The comment period is now closed, and we are hopeful that Alzheimer’s will be included as a national objective for promoting health and preventing disease in the final version of Healthy People 2020.
