KC Half Marathon &
raised $1,000!

What is the ALZ Stars Program?

No matter if you're an experienced athlete or just beginning your training program, the incentive to cross the finish line remains the same - to increase local awareness and to inspire others to take action in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. As an athlete you already understand the importance of physical fitness as it pertains to Maintaining Your Brain, and now it's time to turn your passion for endurance events into a meaningful way to support the Alzheimer cause. The extra steps you take to become an ALZ Stars athlete will make a huge difference for the 5.3 million people in the U.S. struggling with this devastating disease.

ALZ Stars can participate in any independent event. All aspects of the event (registration, training, race details, etc.) are handled directly through the event-host organization. ALZ Stars then work directly with Alzheimer's Association Chapter staff on the fundraising component of the event. We can advise you on fundraising goals (minimum of $250), provide resources to help
you reach your goals, ideas on how to encourage others to
join you and, best of all, your own ALZ Stars apparel to wear
the day of your race.

What Type of Events Can ALZ Stars Participate and Fundraise In?

Below are several ideas of structured athletic events, but, as always, we encourage ALZ Stars to look at their personal passions to pursue of all types of possibilities.

  • Running
  • Bicycling
  • Dance Competition
  • Bowling Tournament
  • Triathlon
  • Hiking Adventure
  • Corporate Challenge
Erika Nilles-Plumlee and Kelli Bates of Lawrence
ran the Boston Marathon in April 2009 and together raised $3,120.

How do I Start?

  • Choose the event that best suits you
  • Complete the ALZ Stars Registration Form
  • Chapter staff will contact you after receiving your registration form to discuss the event, your fundraising, etc.
  • If you have questions beforehand, contact Trisha McClanahan at 913.831.3888, 800.272.3900 or trisha.mcclanahan@alz.org.

2010 Hospital Hill ALZ Stars Team

The Alzheimer's Association - Heart of America Chapter is again joining efforts with the infamous Hospital Hill Run. We will be forming a 2010 Hospital Hill ALZ Stars Team to take on the hills of Kansas City on Saturday, June 5 at Crown Center. The inaugural 2009 Team (a mix of both experienced and novice athletes) challenged themselves and were able to reach amazing accomplishments - one being raising more than $10,300. We're looking to grow our ALZ Stars team (and fundraising total) this year and hope you will step out of your comfort zone and test your limits for a cause that needs ALZ Star support. Find out more details.
