In 2009 more than 4,000 local community members became Alzheimer's Champions at one of the six Memory Walks that took place throughout the Chapter's bi-state service area and reached a fundraising total of $530,000!
The Memory Walk movement continues this year as we strive for another record-breaking season. The Heart of Amercia Chapter asks you get on board as a 2010 Champion and help make this important cause known, understood and supported throughout Kansas and Missouri and, ultimately, throughout the nation.

EVERY person can join in the fight! In 2009 Drew and Dawson, of the Georgie Girls and Nana Belles team, celebrated their 10th birthday and in lieu of gifts the boys asked their friends to make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of their Grandma Georgie! These amazing boys raised $300!
Make Memory Walk More Than Just a Morning Stroll!
You ask how?
- Recruitment. Start asking family members, neighbors, colleagues, etc. to join your team. Make sure they get the date on their calendar!
- Fundraising. Set your goal and plan out how you're going to achieve it. Some fundraisers take time so start early. See Memory Walk Central for ideas.
- Sponsor. Will your company sponsor the local Walk? It's a great idea to ask. Contact the local person above for information about sponsorship levels and benefits.
- Spread the Word. Every community needs assistance in getting the word out about the Walk and the best way to do it is through the walkers. Post information at your workplace, in your faith community, at your local gym, on your Facebook, in your email signature...the list goes on and on.
- Volunteer. Every Walk has a planning committee that is looking for active members to make the event even better as well as volunteers to help on the day of the event. Contact Trisha McClanahan at trisha.mcclanahan@alz.org if you are interested in actively volunteering for one of the above Walks.
Not able to attend one of the 2010 Memory Walks but still want to help? Make an online donation to one of our community walks listed above.
