Best Friends Approach
The Best Friends ™ Approach is a person-centered model of dementia care first utilized in by the Kentucky Alzheimer’s Association and now in use around the world. The program, developed by Virginia Bell and David Troxel, encompasses the familiar concept of friendship in the caregiving process. The Best Friends Approach is structured around the core elements of respect, empathy, support, compassion and humor. This easy to learn, easy to implement approach to caregiving can greatly improve quality of care for people with dementia.
