Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter receives $150,000 gift from PGA player, Hunter Mahan

Professional golfer, Hunter Mahan, donated $150,000 to the important work of the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter.  Hunter was a member of the President’s Cup Team for 2007, chosen as a Captain’s Pick by Jack Nicklaus.  He designated his President’s Cup contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his grandmother who was affected by the disease.

Hunter’s gift will support programs to further education and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease as well as research to find a cure.  Currently, 5 million Americans are affected by Alzheimer’s with devastating effects on them, their families and the health care system.

The Maine Chapter hosts the Eric Weinrich Charity Golf Tournament each year at The Woodlands. This years tournament will honor Hunters gift by making him a major sponsor of the event.  Hunter and his caddy, John Wood, contribute golf items each year to the auction associated with the tournament.

Hunter finished the 2007 season tied for 5th in FedEx points, and won his first PGA tournament, The Travelers Championship.  He had 3 rounds of 62 during the season, solidifying his reputation as an exciting golfer who is poised to win another tournament.  He was invited to the Mercedes Benz Championship at Kapalua, Maui this month where his final round, 9 under par, lifted him into a tie for 5th place.  Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter traveled to the tournament to inaugurate the Hunter Mahan Fan Club as a way to thank Hunter for his generous gift.
