Gardening for Alzheimer's at Parson's Hill
Text Size controls Normal font sizeMedium font sizeLarge font size PrintEmail

The long-term care residents are busy gardening.  They’ve planted numerous flowers, but this year they decided to plant something different: Forget-me-nots.  Each seed planted is in memory of a loved one on the Alzheimer’s unit at Parsons Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Family members or visitors can purchase these gardening certificates at the front desk for $3.00.  The certificates can be in honor of – or in memory of – someone, and the resident in the gardening club will plant a seed in their name.

“A lot of our residents love to garden, and that doesn’t change when they come to live here.”  Stated, Amy Finkel, Director of Marketing & Admissions.

They’re hoping that by the end of summer, the seeds will be in full bloom.  For now, they’re receiving the encouragement they need with all the care the garden’s been receiving.  Although it’s a waiting game for blooms, the seeds are already taking shape into something positive.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the Parsons Hill Walkers to help raise funds for the Central Mass Memory Walk 2009.  It will take place at the Worcester Academy Track on Providence Street, Sunday, September 13th at 10:00 AM.  For more information about Memory Walk visit http://www.memorywalkmanh.org/ or call (508) 799-2386.
