Clinical Trials - what they are and why participate

You can make a difference! Clinical studies are the engine that powers medical progress. Scientists work constantly to find better ways to treat diseases, but improved treatments can never become a reality without testing involving human volunteers.

Research Studies Available at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions:

Research studies at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution focuses in three areas of study:
• Memory and Aging
• Treatments and Prevention
• Brain Imaging

Memory and Aging: JHMI is currently conducting studies that examine the differences between normal aging, mild memory problems, and the onset of memory disorders like Alzheimer’s disease. Studies such as these allow us to learn more about memory and the aging process.

Treatments and Prevention: JHMI is actively involved in several clinical trials that assess the effectiveness of treatments to prevent or slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and other related disorders (Frontotemporal Dementia, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease).

Brain Imaging: JHMI is part of the initiative to learn how technologies like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can best be used in research and clinical practice to assess normal aging and dementia related illnesses like Alzheimer’s disease.

If you or a loved one is interested in more information about the research taking place at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, please call at 1.888.201.0714 or email mtompki2@jhmi.edu
