Annual Alzheimer's Awareness Purple Sunday

Research suggests that the prevalence, incidence and cumulative risk of Alzheimer’s disease appears to be much higher in African-Americans.

On Sunday, October 21, 2012, 50 churches across Maryland participated in the 2nd Annual Alzheimer's Awareness Purple Sunday, an educational event to raise awareness in the African-American community. Information about dementia and services of the Alzheimer's Association reached 165,500 people through this event.

Participating churches received:

  • Educational and other resources from the Alzheimer’s Association and partnering agencies.

  •  Consultations to guide your church through the event.

Commit your church to spreading awareness about this devastating disease in 2013 by contacting  jsample@alz.org or 410.561.9099, ext. 222.
