About Support Groups

Support groups are regularly scheduled gatherings of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, family, friends, and other care partners. These groups provide emotional, educational, and social support for all participants. Confidentiality is always observed.

Support groups create a safe, confidential, and supportive environment that enables participants to develop mutual support and social relationships. They also provide participants with education about issues related to dementia and support to develop the skills to solve problems. The groups empower caregivers and people with dementia to attain their own personal, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being in an effort to optimally care for themselves and each other.

All support group facilitators are trained initially and on a yearly basis. Chapter staff keeps facilitators up to date on the latest issues including research, behaviors, medication, and caregiver support. Facilitators are monitored yearly to ensure the quality of the groups.

We currently have many specialty groups including: early-stage, younger-onset, late-onset, spouses, adult children, Latino, frontotemporal dementia, and a group that meets over the telephone.

**Please note** All new members please call the facilitator listed to confirm the date, time and location.

Telephone Support Group

Caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia are invited to call in and participate in this support group over the phone.

When: 1st Wednesday of each month, 2-3 p.m.

Pre-screening is required. Please call Carol Wynne at 1.800.272.3900 to receive the access number and to register. There is no charge to call in.
