Chat Room Help
A chat room provides Internet users with a way to type messages to one
another in “real time.” When a user sends a message, it instantly
appears on the computer screens of everybody who is in the “chat
room." Messages are only seen by anyone logged into the chat room.
Chat provides online users a way to simulate a conversation.
How is chat different than message boards
On message boards, messages that are posted can be seen by anyone at
a later time. With chat, however, only users in the chat room at the time
of posting see the messages.
How to use the chat room
To post a message, type your messages in the input box at the bottom
of this screen, then click "Send."
Chat Tools
Look for the small "tool" icon below the right hand side roster list.
Click the icon to open a menu.
Clear Chat Content - clears the chat window.
Whispering
You can also send a message through chat that only goes to specific other
users. This is referred to as "whispering". To whisper to another user
or users, first select their names from the right panel of names (so it
is highlighted), then type a message like normal. When you click Send
or type Enter, the message will only be visible to those people. You must
re-highlight the name for each whispered message.
Moderated Chats
From time to time, we will have chat room “events” on various Alzheimer topics. We will post notices of any upcoming chat events on our Web site. If you would also like to receive an e-mail notice of upcoming chats, do the following:
Click the "My Profile" link at the top of this page.
Then click "Preferences" link at the left-hand side of the page.
On the Preferences page, scroll down until will see the following option (about half way down the page).
Check the box (by clicking in it) to permit us to send you an event notice.
Click "Submit" at the bottom of the page.
