Lisa 428 (Active Peer volunteer since Jan.2009)
"Hi, my name is Lisa. I was diagnosed with Early Onset or Younger Onset Alzheimer's disease at 53 years old after 6 months of testing. I was on the National Early Stage Advisory Group about a year ago and still an active Alzheimer's Advocate. I do a lot of volunteering at my local Alzheimer's Association as well as participate and help with our Memory Walk and other local fundraisers.
I am, also, a caregiver to my 79 year old Mother who has vascular dementia and AD.
When I was diagnosed in 2007 there was no Alzheimer's Association here because of hurricane Katina. The Alzheimer's Association Online Community was a life line for me giving me a place to find information, vent feelings and get a lot of support from some really terrific people.
Now, as a Peer Volunteer, I'm trying to give back some of what was given to me. Support, Love, People to talk with, People like me."
