Alzheimer’s Association Launches Cell Phone Collection Drive
Proceeds from Recycling Program to Support Local Programs for Families Affected by Alzheimer’s
The Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter is launching a cell phone collection drive in partnership with The Wireless Alliance, a leading cell phone recycling company. Area residents are being asked to drop off their old, broken or unused cell phones at the Association’s regional offices or at designated collection sites throughout the chapter 23-county service area.
The Wireless Alliance works with manufacturers, wireless carriers, recyclers and non-profit organizations to collect, resell and recycle cellular equipment. The Alzheimer’s Association will receive a donation from The Wireless Alliance for every cell phone that is recycled. All cell phone makes and models are accepted, along with cell phone accessories, batteries and chargers. All equipment is repurposed in a zero waste, environmentally-conscious manner.
“This new fundraising initiative offers the best of both worlds,” said Elizabeth Longley, president and CEO, Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. “Participants can lend their support to the fight against Alzheimer’s and know that at the same time they are doing their part to contribute to a safer and cleaner environment.”
Proceeds from the cell phone collection drive will be used to support local programs and services for people with Alzheimer’s disease, their family members and caregivers, including a toll-free 24/7 Helpline, support groups, education programs, care consultation services, and more.
