Hi! My name is Malorie Howe. Currently I am a junior at the University of Missouri pursuing a career in family medicine. I am also a Miss Missouri (America) State Contestant and I currently hold the title Miss Pulaski County. I have chosen Alzheimer's disease as my personal platform because I hope to raise awareness.
Alzheimer's as affected my family immensely. My great grandmother had Alzheimer's for seven years before she passed away. It was especially hard for my grandmother as she was the primary care giver. As my great grandmother progressed through the disease, we watched as she no longer recongnized her grandchildren and slowly she struggled to recognize her own daughter. I remember how my grandmother was very particular about her eating habits and only wanted grilled cheese. She also wanted to wear the same outfit day after day.
My great grandmother and my family's experience with Alzheimer's inspired me to work with the Alzheimer's Association and Memory Walk. I am also actively involved in various Alzheimer's research projects at the University of Missouri. I hope you'll visit my blog which I have created to provide families with firsthand information about the disease at www.alzheimersperspective.blogspot.com.
There is so much hope for the future of Alzheimer's. I hope that my blog and my effort with the Alzheimer's Association will provide comfort and help to those families and patients suffering until we find a cure and end this tormenting disease.
