For 55 years, my wife Helene was my partner, my friend, and my life. Helene was a loving mother to our children and grandmother to our grandchildren. My wife loved world travel. Our favorite trips were to Hawaii, and I will never forget the wonderful times with Helene. Helene loved to read, loved going to the movies, and of course, rarely missed the opportunity to root for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
I lost her in March, 2008 to Alzheimer’s disease.
Our story is no different than 98,000 Nebraskans and Iowans affected by Alzheimer’s disease today. After a lifetime of memories, my wife was diagnosed with this horrible disease, and in spite of the very best care, she no longer remembered our wonderful times together. Every day, I visited her at the assisted living facility, and every day I saw this extraordinary woman slip a little bit further away.
As a husband and caregiver, I am committed to the Alzheimer’s Association Midlands Chapter and their vision of a world without Alzheimer’s. Please join me in making a difference by supporting the Alzheimer’s Association Midlands Chapter. Your donation this Mother’s Day, in loving tribute to a loved one affected by Alzheimer’s, helps the Midlands Chapter fulfill its mission by offering cutting-edge education to families and professional caregivers, care consultation, and so much more.
Not a day goes by when I don’t remember my wife Helene. I am supporting the Midlands Chapter this year to honor her valiant struggle, and I’d like to ask for your support as well. Please bring us one step closer to the day when we truly are a world without Alzheimer’s.
Sincerely,
