Nearly 45,000 women die of Alzheimer's disease each year — more than twice the number of men. One in six women are at risk for developing Alzheimer's in their lifetime, while the risk for men is one in ten. Female caregivers often juggle work, family and caregiving responsibilities. As a result, workplace productivity and advancement opportunities often are compromised.
The National Capital Area Chapter is implementing a new initiative focusing on the impact of Alzheimer’s on women. Our goal is to engage 5,000 women in the next three years as volunteers, advocates, donors and users of our programs and services. Volunteers are needed to help plan and implement community outreach and social gatherings, awareness and media activities, and a celebratory luncheon in May 2010.
