Juli Inkster Celebrates Year With Rounds to Remember

Initiative continues to honor Patty Berg and calls upon golf fans to support Alzheimer's Association

Juli Inkster, current LPGA player and Hall of Fame member, celebrated her successful participation with the Alzheimer's Association A Round to Remember™ during the 2007 tournament season. Today at the ADT Championship, she presented a $28,000 donation to the Alzheimer's Association, reflecting a $1,000 contribution from Genworth Financial for each of her 28 rounds under par this year.

The check presentation and season-long placement of the Alzheimer's Association logo on her bag, helped Inkster keep alive the memory of Patty Berg, LPGA co-founder and legend who died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease last year. “All season, members of the gallery have shared with me their personal stories with this tragic disease,” Inkster said. “Each one reminded me of the struggles faced by Patty, her friends and family, and the millions of people in the US currently living with Alzheimer's disease.”

Inkster and several of Patty Berg’s LPGA friends helped launch Round to Remember at the 2006 US Women’s Open, where Berg participated by cell phone. Afterwards, Berg wrote “I’m sure I needn’t tell you how very much I want the Round to Remember program to play a role (I hope a significant one) in raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, the work of which has my wholehearted support. It is, as you know, also a personal thing, and while it’s probably too late for me, I do so hope the work and the dedication of the Association and its allies soon results in both prevention and a cure for this most debilitating disease.”

Inkster’s strong season this year has included six Top 10 finishes and lots of Sunday play while in contention or with the lead. “It has given me great pleasure to bring attention to the reality of this disease, to help raise money, and to increase the awareness of the work and resources of the Alzheimer's Association,” she said. “I encourage everyone who enjoys golf to do their part by making a contribution.”

Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million people over the age of 65 in the United States. As the 77 million baby boomers age, this number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
