“Christopher and I each had a great relationship with our respective grandfathers, and we were both terribly devastated when AD took over not only their lives, but ours as well. These great men had established a strong foundation of love, support and strength in our lives, and it was a tough moment for us when our grandfathers passed away. In their memory, we were both determined to incorporate their love into our wedding. For weeks, we researched ideas, but could not find any personally endearing means to include them on our wedding day. Every idea seemed either uncomfortable or simply just overbearing on our guests’ emotions. Thankfully, I came across a website one day that suggested something revolutionary. In lieu of souvenirs, donations to the cause were collected on behalf of the couple. I was ecstatic - the idea was just perfect. Having a destination wedding in Mexico, we figured that carrying a suitcase of souvenirs, destined to be misplaced in the chaos, did not sound good. As a result, we thought it would be a great idea to use the money allocated for the souvenirs and donate it on behalf of our guests! HOW GREAT IS THAT! Everybody loved the idea, and we quickly got in contact with the Alzheimer's Association. They were so friendly and managed to send me donation cards that were to be used during the reception within TWO days! Everything was working out great. The end product consisted of attaching the donation cards to the same maracas that guests had taken to celebrate with throughout the night. Everybody fell in love with the idea, and we could not have been happier. It reminded us of our grandfathers’ undeniable love for life and their strength in the face of new challenge.” -Jessica Williams
